This book is Dr. Fateh Singh’s take on contested concepts of Hindutva,Bharata and so onthat are dominating the political-intellectual landscape of the day.The 20th century historian Toynbee declared “Hindu Dharma” to be the only rayof hope for the welfare of the world. In agreement with his statement, Dr. Singh explores the concept of Hindutva, also called the “Sanatan-dharma” (eternal duty) way of life. He lays this out in the book using the Vedas and Upanishads as his primary sources. To attain a life worth living and a world worth living in, this book makes a case for the pancha-nishthatmak dharma (five foundational duties). The five foundational duties include the duty to one’s nation (rashtra-nishtha), the duty tohumanity (manushya-nishtha), the duty of time (samay-nishtha), the duty of effort (shrama-nishtha), and the duty of truth (satya-nishtha). This book offers a guideline for how, by committing to these foundational duties on a national scale, the world can gradually be rid of institutional problems of communalism, casteism, and terrorism.
