About the book

The philosophical literature in India is rich in psychological thought. Ancient Indians were greatly interested in metaphysical analysis and developed profound systems of philosophy all the way from the materialism of Carovakas to monistic idealism of Gaudapada and Sankara.Indian Philosophy consists of six orthodox schools of thought: samkhya, Yoga, Nyaya, Vaisheshika, Mimamsa and Vedanta. Western scholars have debated the relationship and differences within āstika Hindu Philosophy which include several sub-schools of theistic philosophies. The ideas of these sub-schools are found in the Puranas and Āgamas. In this book the articles contributed by eminent authors have been classified under the following heads: Vedanta; God, Absolute, Brahman; Incarnation and Reincarnation; Freedom of the Soul; Liberation (Moksha); Systems of Philosophy and Socio-Cultural Problems.
