Ethics in Technology

Ethics in technology refers to the study and application of moral principles guiding the development, deployment, and use of technology. As technology rapidly evolves, it raises significant ethical questions concerning its impact on society, individuals, and the environment. Key ethical issues in technology include: autonomy and consent; bias and fairness; job displacement and economic inequality; human enhancement and artificial intelligence (AI); autonomous systems and robotics; digital divide and access to technology; intellectual property and innovation; moral agency and responsibility, and many more. In Indian philosophy, the ethics of technology can be understood through a variety of philosophical lenses, particularly from the frameworks of Purushartha, Ahimsa (non-violence), and the holistic world view of interconnectedness. Applications of the significant ethical principles with regard to the modern technological issues such as sustainable technologies, medical technology and healthcare, artificial intelligence (AI) and automation, digital technology and social media, use of weapons and military technology, on consumerism is very essential for all of us to get a comprehensive view and be prepared oneself for the technological challenges. About the Editor Dr. Kamala Srinivas is Associate Professor and Head, Department of Philosophy at SIES College of Arts, Science and Commerce (Empowered Autonomous), Sion (West), Mumbai, affiliated to University of Mumbai teaching for the past 20 years UG courses and 10 years PG courses. She is holding Ph.D, M.A. & B.Ed. degrees. Her Ph.D. is in Applied Philosophy, Thesis Title is Environmental Concern of Rabindranath Tagore and Kwasi Wiredu: A cross-cultural Philosophical Analysis. She has to her credits 15 chapters published in edited books and 5 research articles in reputed research journals on various themes.
