About the book

Indian Classical Literature:Theory and Praxis is a collection of research papers presented on the day (23 December 2022) of the seminar organized by the English Department of Dum Dum Motijheel College. The 'rasadhvani' theory or an artistic combination of emphatic emotions (rasa) and their suggestions (dhvani) together embody an unbroken tradition of Indian literary theory and practice over several hundred years. The subtle sensitivities of the Indian readers always tend to co-relate his or her emotional responses to a story and its characters. Indian critics (like Bharatmuni and Abhinavagupta) observed that the rasas along with their corresponding emotions (the heroic/valour, the furious/anger, the terrible/fear, the pathetic/sorrow, the erotic/love, the comic/mirth, the odious/disgust, the marvellous or the fantastic/ astonishment) can be interpreted in the course of the readers' real-life appraisals which occur at the points of junction or sandhi. Thus, rasas (stages of actions) and sandhis (junctions) together define the genre of literature. The critical essays incorporated in this book will certainly enhance the intellectual adroitness of the students, scholars and the prospective creative writers of literature and criticism in days to come. About the Editors Munmun Giri is working as Assistant Professor of English at Dum Dum Motijheel College, Kolkata. Mr. Animesh Biswas (M.A in English Literature and Language) ; UGC-NET Qualified ( Three Times) and ( WB-SET Qualified) a State Aided College Teacher (Category -I) at DUM DUM MOTIJHEEL COLLEGE.
