About the book
Indian Diaspora: Issues, Challenges and Scope is an academic collection that examines the history, culture, identity, and literature of the Indian diaspora across the world. The book traces the three major waves of Indian migration: the indentured Girmitiya laborers, trader and business communities, and modern skilled professionals. The volume explores how migrants preserved cultural memory, festivals, language, and traditions while facing challenges such as displacement, identity crisis, discrimination, loneliness, and adaptation to new societies. It discusses the experiences of Girmitiyas, the role of translation in diasporic identity, migrant psychology, and Gujarati business networks in the United States. The book also highlights regional diaspora literature, especially Gujarati diasporic writing and poetry by authors like Panna Naik and Priti Sengupta, focusing on themes of nostalgia, home, gender, and belonging. Combining historical, literary, cultural, and psychological perspectives, the book offers a comprehensive understanding of the issues, challenges, and evolving identity of the Indian diaspora.
