About the book
Matter for Flap I and II
‘For a good many years, I have been enjoying the paintings of medieval to contemporary artists as well as the dance performances covering a wide range from India and abroad and this exposure has greatly added to my aesthetic understanding of art and poetry. Once I go into communion with the lines and colours of the paintings and the language of dance, I am on my wings of imagination. I think there must have been something in my subconscious or childhood memories that helps me to get effortlessly associated with the reflections and the symbolic images of paintings, dance and other art forms. I have no idea of how human subconscious reveals itself, but I do know the art of expressing the experiences connected with the art of painting and dance. Instead of keeping myself restricted to the visual impact of the painting and the rhythmic manifestation of dance, I enter into the backdrop and sometimes keep beyond the limits.’
These are the words of renowned Hindi poet Narendra Mohan whose poems have frequently been published in periodicals and English poetry Volumes.
The poems in the collection Like Love We Receive at one time express the lines and colours of the painting and the thrill of a dance act and at other time manifest the silence, anguish and the loss of identity. It seems poetry, dance and music have kept a kind of creative spell over the creativity of these poems.
This collection contains such aesthetic images that come out of an interaction with painting and dance. The creative moment for writing these poems comes to the poet exactly like the creative moment for a painter and dancer. Sometimes they interact so powerfully that the flash of one ignite the creativity of the other. It is a complex process operating at different levels to make a painting and dance live in a poem.
A must read collection of poems for the lovers of poetry.
