About the book

When we begin with "Once upon a time", we go back in time. Mythology is a time machine that takes us back to time. Reversing the clock, poets and artists explore myths both famous and obscure for inspiring their muses and/or seek new context of creative expression. We have undertaken to approach Mythology as a subject of arts and literature without getting embroiled in the questions of faiths. The fascinating literary heritages of our world has so much to offer, spanning a wide range from the classical Egyptian, Indian, Latin, Mesopotamian, Nordic, Oriental, Pagan, Mayan, African and the forgotten ones. There is always something superhuman in mythical figures and the beauty of it is, this superhuman, supernatural is never divorced from their human characteristics. If it is the superhuman powers that hold us spellbound and in awe, it is their human failings that evoke pathos. Simply narrating a myth would amount to repeating what has passed on through generations, we have this urge to not merely sharing fables and tales but to find new meanings; either by a contemporary context, an amalgamation of cultures and myths or a literary reinterpretation. This urge brings us to this arduous task of Mytho-मंथन. Come swim with us in the flow of the cosmos, the supernatural, the superhuman, stories that transcend times before books were born, heroic tales passed orally from God to mankind and from generations to generations, Mytho-मंथन as the name suggests is the derivative of churning of myths being showcased with novel interpretations.--- Lt Colonel Shyam Sunder Sharma, Shaurya Chakra (Rctd) Chief Editor
