Psycho-Social Attributes of Institutionalised Adolescent Girls and Preparedness for Social

This research study aimed to evaluate the quality of care provided by child care institutions for adolescent girls. It brought to light significant shortcomings, revealing that many children in institutional care lacked access to the nurturing and stimulating environment necessary for normal growth, development, and psychological well-being. This lack of support poses risks to children's physical and mental health, hindering their developmental milestones and potentially affecting their successful reintegration into society. The book also includes a focused analysis on adolescent girls in the Palakkad district of Kerala, located in South India. This district-specific study sheds light on several crucial aspects of the lives of these institutionalized adolescent girls, providing detailed insights into their demographic characteristics and personal backgrounds, which often include factors like socioeconomic status, family circumstances, and reasons for being placed in institutional care. The study examines why these adolescents were institutionalized, such as family issues, neglect, abuse, or the lack of a supportive guardian. This data is crucial in understanding the systemic and situational factors that lead to the institutionalization of vulnerable population. About the Authors Dr. Mini M.V. (Sr. Tessin Mynatty) is a religious nun of the Congregation of Sisters of Adoration of Blessed Sacrament (SABS), Vimal Rani Province, Palakkad, Kerala, India. She joined the congregation in 1992 and served in New Delhi, Coimbatore, Erode, Palakkad and Attappady. Dr. Shoby Bovas is the Chief Operating Officer at Native Medicare Charitable Trust (NMCT) in Coimbatore and she was working as an Associate Professor of Social Work at Sree Saraswathi Thyagaraja College in Pollachi.
