About the book
“Reviving” seeks to capture the significant memories of the writer whose name in the novel is Aruneshwar. In a state of late retirement he recalls images of places, people, incidents and interactions standing out in his memory, which include a small factory colony in a rural location and the society of people working there, the city of Delhi as it was many years ago, the city of Kolkata too, in the years gone by, and the city of Jaipur in Rajasthan. A historical fort in Delhi plays a recurrent role, its presence stretching from the nearby abode of the childhood of the writer, to recent years when archaeological excavations revealed even more antique remains and civilisations. The variety in the societies that Aruneshwar witnesses and lives with in the many different locations stands out as living beings even after the many years since Aruneshwar encountered them and shared their lives.
