'Suitable Landfill Site Selection and Management of Municipal Solid Waste' critically explores the challenges of municipal solid waste (MSW) management in the western heartland of India, Jaipur. It presents an empirical approach, data-driven approach for identifying suitable landfill sites and make an attempt to integrate with normative understanding of its impact on local population. Drawing on the author's doctoral research, this book examines the current waste management practices in Jaipur, which are plagued by inefficiency, poor segregation, and environmental contamination, despite efforts like the Swachh Bharat Mission. Adopting solution centric approach, the author tries to use various scientific tools for data analysis through modern day tools like Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing technologies, the book identifies potential landfill sites that meet the environmental and health standards outlined in India's Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules 2016. It highlights key issues such as the lack of proper waste segregation, unregulated dumpsites, and the health risks associated with inadequate waste disposal. About the Editors Dr. Sangeeta Chaudhary earned her PhD in Geography from the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. She has specialized in “Solid Waste Management: Identifying Land Suitability for Landfill Sites.” Her work on urban waste solutions and public health is widely recognized by leading international scientific journals like Elsevier. Dr. Sarina Kalia is a distinguished Professor of Geography at the University of Rajasthan, specializing in Industrial and Economic Geography. With over two decades of teaching experience in undergraduate and postgraduate programs, she has significantly contributed to understanding sustainable resource management, urban planning, and industrial locational analysis.
