Biography
Dr. Rabin Deka is Professor and Head of the Department of Sociology at Tezpur University, Assam, where he has taught for over two decades since joining as Assistant Professor in 2006. He holds a PhD from Dibrugarh University on peasant movements in colonial Assam, and his research spans agrarian history, subaltern historiography, ethnicity and identity formation in Northeast India, and the Bhakti tradition of Sankaradeva. He has served as Principal Investigator on an ICSSR-funded study of constitutional provisions for social inclusion in India's Northeast, and contributes to ongoing collaborative projects with the International Institute of Social Studies (The Hague) and local research institutions in Assam. His work has appeared in Asian Ethnicity, The Eastern Anthropologist, and other peer-reviewed journals, and he has supervised multiple doctoral theses on land relations, ethnic identity, and social movements in the region. He is a Life Member of the Indian Sociological Society and the North East India History Association.
