Abstract
Shashi Deshpande in her novel That Long Silence, through the character of Jaya, brings forth the emotional and psychological clashes that any middle class married female experiences when confronted with a choice. The paper is an attempt to analyse and explore the fractured female self on account of disharmony that exists within one's inner self and the outer self with reference to Jaya of That Long Silence
