Not quite popular in India, and rarely studied as a part of the Indian post- and undergraduate syllabi, literature of the Résistance remains an important part of international literature and recalls the hardships faced by millions of French citizens after Nazi Germany occupied their country in 1940. Just as the Spanish Republicans were supported by members of the International Brigade, the German Occupation of France motivated many non-French intellectuals, Samuel Beckett being one of the more important individuals among them, to write poignant novels and poems about the domination of the freedom-loving individuals. The present essay proposes to focus not only on the intellectuals and writings in favour of the French Résistance fighters, but also on those writers and wrings which eulogised the Nazi occupation of France
