About the Poet
In the brief compass of this Foreword, I would rather funnel my attention to the poet and critic two contrary terms getting mingled together. As a poet his one line "This rose will remain fluttering/ Even when the poet is no more" Intuitively perhaps Samar Pratap comes to choosing the sense of futurity in the verb collocation instead of situating the line in simple present tense. The sense of futurity yields immediately to the apprehension of transience or mutability, of tentativeness or incertitude. Here the poet's poetic persona posits a pledge never to withdraw from a dedicated commitment to poetry and to churning it out of the apparent stuff of life. Yet a deeper exploration of this voice of pledge may reveal a range of unexpected and even self-subversive turns of meaning in the underlayer. The voice of promise in tandem with the tense of futurity suggests tentativeness, or uncertainty; a promise however much affirmed may ultimately fizzle out.
