About the book

“What do I write? The poet asks and answers, 'What I write is never my words alone. I write what others tried to say, to communicate. I repeat what others have already said; And I try to write what those who come after me would like to tell. In the torrential flow beating and breaking the banks just a drop of my tears too; in the typhoon that blows and roars I add my life breath too; in this beautiful glittering spiritual brilliance added is my own grateful smile – that is all…” (Sugathakumari in Preface to her Anthology Irulchirakukal, 1969)
